Unlimited Wii Downloads is a peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing network.  Like Napster, it doesn’t actually own or even keep copies of files for you to download.  All this service does is give you step-by-step instructions for using P2P sharing.  It also helps you find the sources of games, movies and other files you can download.  When you use a P2P sharing network, you are downloading files from a computer that belongs to another individual.  That is what makes it a peer rather than a commercial server.

The big problem here is that Unlimited Wii Downloads takes no responsibility whatsoever.  You shoulder all the responsibility and all the risk associated with downloading files from other people’s computers.  The risks are substantial.  Most of the games, movies, music and other products are copyrighted.  The license agreements specifically prohibit making copies for anyone other than the original purchaser.  When you download a copyrighted product, you put yourself at risk of prosecution and your computer at risk of confiscation.

This is not a trivial risk.  The RIAA has been successfully prosecuting individuals for downloading a small number of music MP3 files that were illegally shared.  The people prosecuted lost their computers and had to pay fines of thousands of dollars.  The RIAA is going after individuals, regardless of how many files they downloaded or shared.

You can avoid these problems by downloading only public domain material.  However, the selection is far more limited.  If you want games and movies that are sold in stores, downloading them through this network is flat out illegal.  Furthermore, it is very easy to learn about P2P networks and file sharing.  Just Google peer to peer file sharing.  Why pay to learn about this rather simple concept when you can learn it rather quickly for free?  And if you have trouble understanding the information, just ask a teenager for help.

I recommend avoiding this product.  Use Google and free web resources if you are bent on sharing files.  I strongly recommend that you keep your sharing activities entirely legal – it just isn’t worth the chance of being caught.  You can also buy the products you want at deep discounts – pawn shops sell games and DVDs for a couple of bucks each.
